Retipping diamond tools for cost efficiency and more sustainable operations

Did you know there’s a simple process that helps Husqvarna diamond tools last longer without compromising on performance? Read more and discover what retipping diamond tools can do for your business and how it can contribute to waste reduction.

In core drilling applications, the diamond segments attached to the drilling tubes naturally experience wear and occasional breakage from extended use. Your instinct may be to simply purchase new replacement diamond tools. But before doing so, we recommend you consider retipping as an alternative.

Retipping is a specialised process that involves rejuvenating worn or broken diamond segments, extending the life of your drilling equipment. This approach not only promotes cost-efficiency but also reduces waste.

In a process that takes place at a Husqvarna Service Centre, the old segments are removed and new segments are then brazed onto the old core of the tube, extending the product’s life. Although retipping demands a high level of skill from the technician, it’s straightforward for you as the customer and requires no special or time-consuming steps. Simply leave them in your Husqvarna technicians’ capable hands and they will take care of the rest.

By opting for retipping, you can extend the lifespan of your existing diamond tools and maximise the return on your initial investment. This practice not only proves economical but also underscores a commitment to environmental responsibility. Furthermore, this method maintains the performance quality of the original diamond tool, ensuring continued efficiency and reliability in core drilling operations.

On average, a drill tube can be reused about four to five times. Considering that just the worn-out segments and a few additional millimetres of the tip will be removed during each iteration of retipping, the potential amount of steel saved due to the recurring remanufacturing process can result in a huge decrease in overall material consumption.

Environmental demands within construction are constantly getting tougher, so every step an operator or contractor can take to reduce waste or material use can be meaningful. We see retipping as an already existing and accessible way to take such steps,” says Gjergj Guri, Senior Vice President Aftermarket & Services.

Retipping is another expression of Husqvarna’s commitment to offering solutions that support customers’ business. This can be in the form of world-leading diamond tools or consumables or, in this case, a service that allows them to get more from what they already have.

On average, retipping is generally around 25% cheaper than purchasing a new tool, depending on the specifications and market. A larger drill tube typically has a greater savings potential compared to a smaller tube. If you multiply the savings potential across numerous diamond tools, it’s clear that there’s money to be saved. But while financial gain is a great motivator for our customers, the fact that it can be achieved without any performance or quality drop while also providing a significant reduction in wasted high-quality materials makes retipping even more attractive. If you’re a contractor or operator using diamond tools, we highly recommend contacting a Husqvarna Service Centre to find out more about our retipping service and what it could do for your business,” concludes Gjergj Guri.
